Climate change is a big issue and the overwhelming consensus of world scientific opinion now tells us that climate change is happening and that it is accelerated by human activity.
As pictures often speak louder than words, you can view our graphic explanation of climate change .
This shows how using resources and energy causes “greenhouse gases” such as carbon dioxide to be released into the atmosphere which can lead to dramatic changes in climate.
Plus the way we lead our lives affects our environment more directly; when we choose to drive into town we create pollution and the items we choose to buy have an energy cost, and pollute our local environment when we throw them away.
But, rather than being a difficult, expensive or scary thing, helping the environment and living more sustainably is easy, cost effective and it also benefits Oxford and the people who live, work and study here.
“Oxford is My World” follows similar initiatives around the UK, but it is the most comprehensive local guide of its kind and shows how Oxford can lead the way as an international example of a sustainable city.
We also want your input; so if you have any good ideas on how we can improve the Guide or would like to tell us how you help ‘save the planet’ please contact us.
