Welcome by Cllr John Goddard

4th March 2008

Cllr Goddard welcomes businesses to the Low Carbon Breakfast event"I am truly heartened to see so many representatives of local business here today. If I had stood up 5 years ago and said that climate change is a reality that we have to face and that we all have a responsibility to address it you may well have muttered and started walking out

Just how many of you are here today shows how much public and government opinion has changed since then. Oxford City Council now has a Climate Change Action Plan and is working with the Carbon Trust on a comprehensive Carbon Management Programme.

Recently we have implemented automatic switch-off devices for computers, insulating pool covers in our sports centres and we are now looking into the installation of large-scale renewables in order to reduce our own carbon emissions.

Therefore it is with great pleasure that I would like to welcome you to Oxford’s first ‘Low Carbon Breakfast’ and hope that we can use this occasion to exchange experiences, and learn from each other, in order to put Oxford at the very forefront of the fight against climate change.”
